iPhoneNotes Beta 0.1

iPhoneNotes Icon
iPhoneNotes Screenshot

Since apple is building and updating the iPhone software they’ve forgotten to deal with the Notes on your iPhone. They’ve just backed up them and thats not enough for me. So today I release an application to manage the iPhone Notes on your Mac.
Currently implemented features:

  • Download notes from your iPhone
  • View the notes
  • Edit (change,add and remove)
  • Save them back to your iPhone

All that is currently just possible with a jailbroken iphone and installed OpneSSH over WiFi. But I’m trying to support a cable based notes transfer which should work with every iPhone.

Known issues:

  • Works just with 1.1.3 or higher
  • Only over WiFi with a jailbroken iPhone
  • Sometimes nothing sows up. Just try to download the notes again and have a look at the log window

Download here: iPhoneNotes 0.1.1

This software is totally free and comes with absolutely no warranty

Update:
Version 0.1.1 added with fixed resizing problem.

Great to finally see this type of application come around; I couldn’t until now get to my notes. I have though noticed a problem, that even though I have provided the correct IP, UserID and Password to get my notes, this app still can’t (even after removing the app and any plist or preference files) and trying again with a new install. I can SFTP into my Touch with CyberDuck, so that’s not the issue.

Would like to see this app succeed and would like to hear back from the developer to see if there is a solution to my issue.

Ahh ok, there’s something wrong with your known_hosts file. You could try to delete your .ssh folder (/Users/mael/.ssh) and then login once over ssh with the terminal. After that you should be able to use iPhoneNotes.

thanks V1ru8, I’m trying it but I don’t really know how to do it with the terminal.

    Finally I did it.
    Thanks.

  12. Oscar responded on 17 Mar 2008 at 11:09 #

When creating a new note (on the Mac), the date is one day ahead (iPhone date and Mac date are set correctly)…

  13. Juul responded on 17 Mar 2008 at 11:15 #

Does this App works with Ipod Touch to?

  14. V1ru8 responded on 17 Mar 2008 at 11:23 #

@Oscar: thx I try to fix that in the next version.

@Juul: Have you tried? When you have 1.1.3 or higher and OpenSSH installed it could work. But i haven’t the ability to test it.

  15. V1ru8 responded on 17 Mar 2008 at 16:01 #

@Ricky: you must have frimware 1.1.3 or 1.1.4, jailbroken and OpenSSH installed. Then you need to know the ip of your iPhone (in the next version that will be easier).
Then you can down/upload notes to your iPhone, if it won’t work: have a look at the log window (Window -> Log Window)

@all: anyone here who want’s to beta test the new version 0.2 ?

  16. buffaloman responded on 17 Mar 2008 at 17:16 #

If you want, I could try

  17. iNfEk responded on 17 Mar 2008 at 20:19 #

get app… still buggy though (as expected due to being in beta). 16GB iPhone 1.1.4. my notes won’t fully load meaning i don’t see the hole note only the first 2~3 lines. 1st line doesn’t include subject of the note.

    ill beta test 0.2

  18. iNfEk responded on 17 Mar 2008 at 20:44 #

I also want to add that I’ve been waiting a while for an application like this. It drives me crazy that apple hasn’t found a way to do this yet. It makes sense since mail now has note capabilities.

  19. iNfEk responded on 18 Mar 2008 at 21:17 #

errr… I meant “great app” rather than “get app”… LOL

I’d like to beta test version 0.2 if you don’t mind. How do I go about doing that?

  20. V1ru8 responded on 19 Mar 2008 at 17:37 #

Ok i try to post a link here in the comments for next version to test.
i think i can do that in the next 3-4 days.

  21. iNfEk responded on 19 Mar 2008 at 21:19 #

    Hi,
A must have application, when it works!

I have an imac os 10.4.11

After unzipping and starting the app it jumps one time in the dock and disapears :-(

    Keep it up

  24. iNfEk responded on 20 Mar 2008 at 19:27 #

downloading right now. i’ll let you know what i find.

  25. Tim Houghton responded on 20 Mar 2008 at 23:48 #

This app is fantastic! Thanks a bunch. v0.1.1 works great for me. v0.2 doesnt work at all (can see the iphone, but ‘load’ button does nothing and log window is always completely blank).

  26. Tim Houghton responded on 20 Mar 2008 at 23:49 #

By the way I am using firmware 1.1.4 on an 8GB Uk iphone. Jailbreaked but not unlocked.

  27. V1ru8 responded on 21 Mar 2008 at 00:15 #

@Tim Houghton it looks like you are not the only one who has that problem. That is when Bonjour can’t get an ip-address for the given dns name… but I’m totally new to the Bonjour technology so I’m sure i missed something up. I will try to make that working every time not just randomly.

  28. iNfEk responded on 21 Mar 2008 at 08:17 #

actually V1ru8 I sent you an email after downloading 0.2 with the same trouble as Tim. I haven’t received a reply back from you so I didn’t know if you received it or not.

0.1.1 still can get my notes after a couple of tries though

  29. V1ru8 responded on 21 Mar 2008 at 10:00 #

I got your mail. How you see above I have some ideas where the problem could be.

    @iNfEk ??? have a look at http://www.v1ru8.net ???

  37. iNfEk responded on 24 Mar 2008 at 23:14 #

    @V1ru8

Sorry, I usually just go directly to this page. 0.3 is awesome! All my notes load pretty quickly and seems to work well now that the bonjour ip problem was resolved. I’ll test it for the next couple of days and let you know if i find any problems.

  38. iNfEk responded on 25 Mar 2008 at 08:53 #

    Version 0.3 Trouble:

    1. If phone is in sleep iPhoneNotes doesn’t wake it and doesn’t see it via Bonjour
    2. Sometimes when downloading notes it can hang for a little while before presenting the notes that are present on the phone
    3. If the program sees your iPhone and you download the notes or save notes and your phone goes to sleep your phones name is then duplicated in the list.
    4. Notes updated through iPhoneNotes do NOT display how they are on the screen (Omits the spacing and the next blank line down). But… If you update the incorrect spacing and blank lines via the iPhone and load the note again via iPhoneNotes then the spacing is correct.

    Example:

    A
    B
    C

    D
    E

    F

will display as the following after it’s saved to your iPhone:

    A
    B
    C
    D
    E
    F

    5. Date/Time isn’t updated when you modify a note via iPhoneNotes.

This has come a long way from 0.1!

  39. locolost responded on 25 Mar 2008 at 18:57 #

    hi,

    still no start up .

It jumps ones in the dock and disapears.

But …i am confident it will work!
